Performance Costumes

Hi All,

We are having our practise dress rehearsal on Thursday and the proper dress rehearsal to the school on Friday.

Please come and see us if you can’t get a costume sorted – we did find a costume letter left behind and hope you all got one!

Looking forward to sharing it with you all.

Mrs Sherrington

20 Marble Treat!

We got to our 20 Marble Treat this afternoon and what a great time we had!

Mr Burns helped us play games on the Ipads – we all had a go.

Miss Ride helped us paint some pictures of fireworks.

We get a marble when the whole class work well – for example when we all sit quietly, or we line up beautifully, or we work well on our handwriting.

JOINED UP WRITING!! you will find some handwriting practise in the homework books – at. please help your child to join these letters.

Do not let them join everything – we have explained that we will learn the joins one at a time. For now they can join al and at.

We have also listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and have talked about Firework Safety.

See you at the fireworks tomorrow night!

1 2 3 Stories 3!

Today Key Stage 1 saw a brilliant performance by Su Eaton from Hand to Mouth Theatre.

She told 3 stories using puppets and shadows. It was fantastic!

We saw The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The 3 pigs and Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.

In Year 1 we are learning about Traditional tales and this was a super way to revise the stories.

Su also played the Banjo / ukulele = also known as the bajulele….. we all joined in the songs.

Tree Hunt!

In science we have been learning about plants. We grew some cress – hope you enjoyed eating it at home!

Last week we looked at trees. Some trees lose their leaves in Winter and some do not.

Ask us what you call a tree that stays green all year?

We also learnt the word Deciduous.

We went on a hunt around the school grounds and looked for trees to identify.

We named trees and decided whether they were evergreen or deciduous.

What a fun afternoon!

Planting Cress

As part of our Science Topic we planted cress today!

We held lots of different seeds and talked about what they look and feel like. We thought about what they might grow in to.

Then we had to listen very carefully and follow lots of instructions to plant our own cress seeds.

We made sure we gave them some water and watched to see if they changed.

We wondered if they might reach the ceiling by tomorrow!!

We are going to keep a record of what happens.

Ask your child what is happening to their cress seeds and why.

Phonics

Our Phonics sessions are going well and the children are working beautifully to revise sounds and learn new ones.

We usually have 3 sessions per week.

On Wednesday we introduce a new book, practise sounds and read out books with our perfect partners. We take it in turns to hold the pointing stick (lolly!) and read to our partner.

We split into groups so that we are reading books at the appropriate level.

On Thursday and Friday we quickly revise the sounds, re-read the book, and then write about the book in our special Read Write Inc books. The tasks are varied and exciting – we write speech bubbles, descriptive words, sentences, lists and much more.

New sounds are practised every session so that we are speeding though the tricky ones – like ‘i-e’, ‘igh’ and ‘ea’ and ‘ee’. We will keep repeating these sounds and adding new ones as the children progress.

To help your child at home read, read and read please! Talk about spelling patterns you come across – especially the split sounds ‘a-e’ i-e’ o-e’ ‘u-e’.

Welcome to Year One!

Welcome everyone to our Year 1 blog!

This is where we post photos, show our work and let you know how we are getting on in Bramshaw Class.

The children have settled in beautifully and are such a lovely class to work with. Behaviour is great and lots of learning is going on.

Reading Books – children are encouraged to change their books as often as needed. They have time to do so independently each morning. For now, help them if they need it!

Library Books – Mrs Sherrington will take the class on a Thursday or Friday, so please pop books into book bags ready to swap.

Homework – lovely new homework books will be sent out on a Thursday (usually) to be returned by the following Weds please. Please work with your child – pencil grip is so vital in year one and keep an eye on the direction your child is forming their letters. Come and see us, or write a note in the homework books if you are not sure about anything.

Quick reminder! Can you please remind your child to put their blue reading diary into the yellow box each morning so we can check for notes. Thanks.

Well Done Year One! A super start to the new school year!
